nothing formal
about an affair….

i opened a can
of ice cold beer
(my favorite off brand)
pour it slow
*gotta watch the head*
(i mean watch the foam)
into my personalized
un*autographed “Black Oak” mug
with fancy smancy jim dandy
(or maybe it’s jim dodie) logo
extend my drinking pinky
(simple sophistication
if you must know)
i wipe the extra foam
on a causal sleeve
sit my mug on the genuine
one of a kind Elvis
impersonator coaster
$mustn’t leave a ring$
and think where is my dog
before I take another drink
and watch the timber dawn.

an announcement from
the karaoke machine:

“Attention all party goers
we will be serving
something on the half shell
with your choice of sides
and a dinner roll
one mint per table”

this will be a long night
i may need the other sleeve.

Bob, most cool, for the short list, and I love

one mint per table”

and of course

and think where is my dog
before I take another drink
and watch the timber dawn.

and the other sleeve.

Smiles.

Gary

"Black Oak" ? Hahaahahaha you're dating yourself ole partner. Welcome to the old hippie's retirement home and literary dumping grounds. Gald to see there is an new "old crusty" here.

Great piece, reminds me of a bar in New Orleans in 1968. Well done descriptive and evocative piece. Congratulations!

Mac, enjoyed the read. One small suggestion here:

I opened a can
of ice cold beer
(my favorite off brand)
pour it slow

a change in tense

maybe change opened to open
or add a to before pour

:-) K
